MOONSHOTS · Machine-addressable scientific work

Executable Science

Move more claims, assumptions, evidence, experiments, theories, contradictions, and proof obligations into inspectable machine-addressable research objects.

STATUSLong-horizon research goal
IMPORTANT LIMITThis is a direction, not a completed result.

This page describes the goal, work that already exists, and the main unresolved problems. It does not claim scientific validation, deployed capability, external adoption, market value, or inevitability.

WHAT THIS GOAL MEANS TODAY

The current interpretation, footholds, and open problems.

Where the research is unresolved, the description remains provisional.
01

The objective is not to reduce science to software. It is to make more of the scientific process executable where execution is appropriate while preserving uncertainty, domain expertise, peer criticism, negative results, and human judgment.

02

Current footholds include executable-representation research, machine-addressable artifact contracts, experiment registers, research-state review, evidence/provenance machinery, and bounded execution queues.

What remains unsolved

Open problems

Executable research objects become scientifically useful only if they preserve the differences among proof, simulation, measurement, inference, and narrative argument.

  1. 01

Formal semantics for machine-addressable theories and evidence.

  2. 02

Interoperability among proofs, simulations, measurements, datasets, and prose arguments.

  3. 03

Reproducibility as tools, models, and environments change.

  4. 04

Explicit preservation of uncertainty, negative results, and unresolved contradictions.

  5. 05

Interfaces between executable machinery and ordinary scientific peer review.

WORK THAT ALREADY EXISTS

Current projects and research that move this goal forward.
