PRODUCTS

What can someone actually use?

Boundary First Labs turns selected research and engineering work into books, software, tools, methods, and public testbeds.

A product page should make the offer concrete: who it is for, what exists now, what is still experimental, and what evidence would justify the next step.

PRODUCT RULEShow what the user can do before making claims about the market.

CURRENT PRODUCT EDGE

Two concrete products closest to outside use.

Each card separates what already exists from what users and the market still have to prove.

RESEARCH PRODUCT

BOOK / LEARNING PRODUCT

Boundary-First Chess

A book-length teaching asset and developed pedagogy for helping learners ask better questions about what changed on the board.

EXISTS NOWRoughly 140-page manuscript

Complete teaching manuscript, explanatory grammar, worked material, and a preserved chess-specific rights / stewardship surface.

NEXT OUTSIDE TESTPackage the existing asset

External review, production, pricing, preorder/publication, pilot, licensing, or partner evaluation — not first-offer invention.

PROJECTR · ACTIVE SOFTWARE PRODUCT

Projectr

Projectr is a knowledge-exploration product for turning long-form sources into searchable, persistent knowledge without losing the path back to the original. YouTube Knowledge Explorer is the current working implementation.

EXISTS NOWWorking vertical slice

Source parsing, transcript normalization, outlines, concept-linked search, evidence-bound answers, local persistence, and portable interchange exist now.

NEXT OUTSIDE TESTRepeated voluntary use

Build a usable MVP, see whether people return, and only then test willingness to pay for the bounded capability.

RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE

Corpus Forge helps make research work inspectable and repeatable.

Projectr helps people explore and preserve knowledge. Corpus Forge supports the research process itself. They can exchange artifacts without becoming the same product.

ENGINEERING METHOD

Software Before Code is the Lab's core engineering doctrine.

Understand the system, the information it must preserve, the changes it must support, and the consequences that matter before implementation choices harden the model.

RESEARCH TESTBEDS

Some product-shaped surfaces exist primarily to test the research.

Weather, ASM, mathematical calibration work, and institutional tools are shown here because they are usable or inspectable artifacts—not because they have equal commercial maturity.

HOW TO READ THE PRODUCT PORTFOLIO

A product should be useful before the Lab makes a big market claim.

These sections explain how BFL separates a working artifact from user evidence, market evidence, scientific evidence, and a durable product business.

WHY PRODUCTS MATTER

Real users provide evidence that internal enthusiasm cannot.

Use, confusion, criticism, return visits, adoption, and payment all reveal whether a product is actually useful.

RESEARCH → PRODUCT

One body of work can support several small product tests.

Do not turn every possible extension into a separate product before users provide evidence.

OTHER CANDIDATES

Some work looks product-shaped but is not yet a current offer.

Additional candidates keep a clear next test instead of being presented as ready too early.

USER BENEFIT

A good product should leave the user more capable.

The aim is useful capability, not merely attention or dependence.

MARKET EVIDENCE

A promising artifact is not the same as a validated market.

Working software, user value, willingness to pay, retention, and scientific validation remain different claims.

PRODUCT PAGE CHECKLIST

A visitor should not have to guess what exists.

Every product page should make the offer, audience, current state, evidence, uncertainty, next milestone, and ownership clear.

FAST FEEDBACK

Build the artifact. Put it in front of a person. Learn what survives contact.

A person buys the book, uses the tool, tries the interface, finds a defect, returns — or does not. That interaction is evidence.
